Lucas — Tennis Coach at Cagney Tennis Academy
Lucas fell in love with tennis at seven years old while growing up in Brisbane. He trained at several tennis centres with coaches who helped him progress through each stage of his development. Between the ages of 10 and 16, he competed on the Australian Junior Tour across Queensland and New South Wales. His hard work paid off when he reached a national Top 15 ranking in his age group at just 15.
Lucas has coached at several well-known clubs in Brisbane, including the Queensland State Tennis Centre, home of the Pat Rafter Arena, and the University of Queensland. He moved to the Newcastle area for work and joined Cagney Tennis Academy in 2024. Since then, he has brought high energy, enthusiasm and a professional attitude to every session.
Lucas has almost 25 years of elite playing experience and more than 15 years of coaching along the East Coast of Australia. He has worked with professional coaches, head coaches, and tennis business owners, gaining a deep understanding of player development.
With a background in psychology, Lucas also has a strong interest in the mental side of tennis. He enjoys helping players build confidence, improve focus, and manage pressure during training and competition.
Lucas is a key member of our coaching team and works with players across Eleebana, Fletcher, Lakelands, Valentine, and the wider Newcastle area. His knowledge and practical teaching style help students improve their technique and enjoy the game more each week.
We are thrilled to have Lucas with us and look forward to seeing our players benefit from his experience, guidance, and passion for the sport.
